Sergeant at Arms
According to our chapter bylaws, the Sergeant at Arms "...will also help maintain order during chapter meetings according to Robert's Rules of Order. He/she will be responsible for placing the colors at all meetings. He/she will monitor the persons entering and leaving the meeting while in session."
A quick explanation about Robert's Rules of Order... According to Wikipedia, the first version of Robert's Rules of Order was published in February 1876 by Major Henry Martyn Robert. The book was written after Robert was chosen to preside over a church meeting and realized that he didn't know what the proper procedures were to run a meeting. He noticed that different organizations ran their meetings in wildly different manners and decided to write a book listing how to effectively run a meeting using parliamentary procedure.
The ALR uses Robert's Rules of Order as a guideline for our meetings. It's up to the Sergeant at Arms to help interpret the rules should a conflict arise regarding procedure.
Well, I feel smarter now. You?
